How to Care for Your Skin After Hair Removal

Smooth results without the irritation? Yes, please.

Hair removal has become a regular part of many self-care routines — whether it’s waxing, sugaring, laser, or epilating. But let’s be honest: there’s nothing particularly gentle about it. All types of hair removal cause minor trauma to the skin, and if you skip proper post-care, it can quickly lead to irritation, dryness, ingrown hairs, or even inflammation.

If you want your skin to stay soft and smooth after the appointment too — here’s what you need to know.

What happens to your skin after epilation?

  • The top layer of dead skin cells is removed
  • Pores remain open and vulnerable to bacteria and external irritants
  • Redness, warmth, flaking, or itching may appear
  • If you’re prone to ingrown hairs, mild inflammation can occur

The gentler you are with your skin right after epilation, the quicker and better it will recover.

Your post-epilation care rules

1. Skip harsh cleansing
For the first 12–24 hours, avoid scrubs, exfoliating acids, and cleansers with sulfates or alcohol.
Use a mild gel cleanser or simply rinse with thermal water.

2. Focus on calming the skin
Apply a soothing product with panthenol, aloe, centella, chamomile, or calendula.
Avoid anything fragranced, colored, or with active acids right after your session.

3. No tight clothing
Let your skin breathe! For the first 24 hours, skip leggings, jeans, and synthetic fabrics that rub.

4. No tanning, saunas, or steamy baths
Stay away from the solarium, beach, gym, pool, and hot baths for 24–48 hours.
These can trigger inflammation, pigmentation, or worsen irritation.

5. Don’t shave “just in case”
Give your skin time to heal. Shaving or epilating too soon can lead to even more irritation.

How to prevent ingrown hairs?

A few days after the procedure (not immediately!):

  • Introduce gentle exfoliation 1–2 times a week
  • Use a scrub or product with BHA or PHA acids
  • Moisturize regularly, not just on the day of the procedure
  • Stick to loose-fitting clothes for the first few days — less friction = fewer problems
